NOTICE
Gilbane Building Company and their subcontractor will be performing concrete slab pours at the new South Kingstown High School on 6/05/2026 and 6/10/2026. The 6/05 pour date addition is in response to the pour scheduled earlier this week which did not occur. Recent slab pours have concluded by 6-7pm due to improved curing conditions and it is the project team’s goal to match this efficiency on these two remaining pour days. However, as previously communicated, finishing will be required that does have the potential to extend after-hours. Anticipated noise levels are equivalent to a lawnmower. Building lighting will remain on while the site is occupied and will be shut off after all workers have left the site.
Substantial concrete slab pours are anticipated to be completed by 6/10/2026, weather permitting. Once completed, there are no additional construction sequences which are currently anticipated to require after-hours work.
There will be minimal, low-nuisance work performed on site this Saturday, 6/06/2026.
Beginning Wednesday June 17, 2026, sitework will be conducted predominantly in what is currently the east side contractor parking area. This sitework will require intermittent vibratory compaction, equal to or less than what was experienced during a similar phase of construction held throughout last Fall’s sitework. This work will last between 2-3 weeks. Vibration monitoring will record all vibration data as has been performed in the past to ensure vibration levels are well below acceptable thresholds.
Nighttime Lighting
After conversations with the broader School Building Project team, consultation with the Union Fire District, South Kingstown Police Department, and our Town Emergency Medical Response team we want to offer some helpful clarification on what to expect at this time regarding lighting on and at the new High School building and construction site. Please note – We will continue to do our best to balance project needs with abutter concerns:
1. When workers are on-site, OSHA requires us to provide proper and adequate illumination for people to safely access the site and perform their work. This typically comes into play on overcast days or during the beginning and end of daylight-saving time, when workers are arriving or leaving the jobsite.
2. When workers are not on-site, the building will have minimal lighting for site security and safety. An activation switch will be installed in the event that our Town’s First Responders team need to access the site for emergencies, the need to inspect that site for safety, or the Construction Team needs to access the site at any time outside of daylight hours.
Saturday Work
The project remains on schedule for substantial construction completion for the New South Kingstown High School Building by the end of Summer 2027 with demolition of the old building and subsequent field & sitework for the new fields beginning shortly thereafter.
As is common in construction, the project must respond to adverse weather events and other unforeseen conditions in real time, which will sometimes require Saturday work. We anticipate the need to complete work occasionally on Saturdays to complete several tasks on the critical path – subject to 24-48 hours’ notice.
As we move forward, we will continue to monitor progress closely and keep you informed. We encourage you to check the project website: http://www.skschoolproject.com regularly, where we post working areas, project photos, and schedules for each upcoming week.
